Bailey House
A ‘tree – house’ hideaway designed for a couple, on a steep hillside facing Lion Rock. The brief stipulated an apartment scaled dwelling in the bush, a contemporary bach, with restrained dimensions dictated by utility. The dark shell blends deliberately into the trees and contrasts with the glow of interior spaces.
Architect: Jason Bailey
Tom and his team from Emerson Building and Construction took on the challenge of our project with enthusiasm and inventiveness. The guys on site were always spirited and energetic, despite being tested by some fairly miserable winter weather.
Tom has exacting standards, and I was impressed by the level of carpentry finish and the care taken to get things right. As a long time Piha resident, his local knowledge and relationships with local sub-trades proved to be invaluable.
In relation to our financial dealings, I found Tom to be fair and reasonable at all times, with any cost variations communicated openly, and all the details of labour and material costs sent through as quickly as possible.
We are very happy with the finished result here and I look forward to the possibility of working with EBC on future projects.
